Tile leveling clips: 1.0 mm vs 1.5 mm vs 2.0 mm vs 3.0 mm
A leveling clip does two separate jobs: it sets the grout-joint width between neighbouring tiles and it holds their surfaces flush while the adhesive cures. Choosing the width is mostly a decision about the finished joint, not about levelling performance.
What the joint width actually decides
The stem thickness of the clip is what sits between two tile edges, so it defines the minimum grout joint you can achieve on that run. A 1 mm clip cannot produce a 3 mm joint, and a 3 mm clip cannot be squeezed into a 1 mm layout.
Levelling ability is a separate question and depends on the base profile and the tile thickness the clip is designed for, not on the joint width. In our range the base profiles run from 1.4 mm to 2.2 mm and cover tiles up to 29 mm thick.
Practical guidance by width

Match the base profile to the tile, not the joint
All four profiles use the same reusable wedges and the same leveling pliers, so adding a second profile to an assortment does not add a second tool.
- Recommended tile clips: 2.2 mm reinforced base, for tiles up to 17 mm thick.
- Hollow-top clips: 1.8 mm base, for tiles up to 18 mm thick.
- Slim base clips: 1.4 mm base, for tiles up to 18 mm thick, shaped for an easy break-off.
- Tall tile clips: 47 mm overall height, for tiles up to 29 mm thick.
Planning a wholesale assortment
Distributors normally stock the widths their market specifies most, then add the extremes for special jobs. If you are unsure which widths to open with, send us the tile formats and thicknesses your customers install and we will suggest a starting assortment and the packing that fits your channel.
